Job Overview

We have an exciting new opening for an Environmental H&S Officer at Whitemeadow. This position is pivotal in providing fundamental administrative support by developing, implementing, and maintaining the Environmental and H&S culture at Whitemeadow.

As the Environmental and H&S Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of environmental and H&S requirements. Reporting directly to the Head of Health, Safety, and Environmental, your role will include assisting with the planning, implementation, and review of safety strategies and environmental measures, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and promoting best practices.

The role is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees while minimising operational risk.

What you will be doing 

  • Devising and implementing environmental frameworks, policies and practices.

  • Keeping up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives including international legislation

  • Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and standards

  • Updating and maintaining the business ESOS reporting system

  • Collecting data for completing the annual Streamlined energy and carbon reporting as well as any efficiency measures

  • Obtain all monthly energy use and update the businesses records

  • Obtain the GHG data for scope 1,2 and 3 and update the businesses Normative system to provide accurate carbon calculations throughout our supply chain, minimize risks and comply with reporting requirements.

  • Assisting in implementing the advised recommendations to reduce the businesses carbon emissions

  • Assessing, analysing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to internal and regulatory bodies

  • Ensure all personnel are fully aware of policies and procedures and where required develop training for employees at all levels

  • Assist in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing safety and environmental strategies.

  • Conduct regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.

  • Support the development and implementation of the ISO management system and procedures.

  • Prepare and submit environmental reports in line with ISO 14001 standards.

  • Liaise with external bodies, such as local authorities and regulatory agencies, on matters related to environmental compliance.

  • Take charge of pollution control, waste management, recycling, and conservation efforts, while promoting sustainability and raising awareness across the company.

  • You will be based at our Orchard Way site however travelling between sites is essential.

Desired Experience / Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing environment.

  • Proven experience in ESOS and working towards net zero.

  • Strong knowledge of environmental and H&S regulations, standards, and best practices.

  • Knowledge of Environmental, standards and best practices

  • Experience in conducting internal audits.

  • Knowledge of Environmental and H&S management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO45001)

  • High attention to detail with the ability to challenge the status quo.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Data analysis and reporting experience

  • Ensure all tasks comply with company policies and take action to reduce potential risks, reporting key information to management as needed.

  • recognise which workplace activities may be subject to environmental legislation or enforcement

  • assess environmental aspects and impacts, and evaluate existing controls

  • support environmental emergency planning

  • understand the importance of reducing environmental harm

  • outline the issues associated with waste and its management

  • explain the pros and cons of various energy sources and how to use them more efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate or equivalent

  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification
